ITINERARY:
HANOI - ARRIVAL (-/-/-)
DAY 1 Meet on arrival at Hanoi / Noi Bai International Airport, transfer to hotel for check in. Rest of day at leisure.
In the evening, attend a performance of the famous Vietnamese traditional art of water puppetry at Thang Long Theatre. Overnight in Hanoi.
HANOI CITY TOUR - HAIPHONG (B/L/-)
DAY 2 Hanoi city tour: We visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum from outside and his former residence, One-Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, built in the 11th century as Vietnam’s first university. Continue with Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple, and discover the Old Quarters during a 1-hour cyclo ride. Lunch at local restaurant, then proceed to Haiphong and short orientation tour to visit Du Hang pagoda, Hang Kenh communal house. Overnight in Haiphong.
HAIPHONG - CAT BA - HALONG BAY - HANOI (B/L/-)
DAY 3 Pick up at hotel and transfer to the pier to take speed boat to Catba island, the largest island in the North of Vietnam. Upon arrival, transfer to the tourist pier for a boat trip through the World Heritage Area with visits to beautiful grottos. Seafood lunch is prepared and served on board. Disembark at Halong pier and drive back to Hanoi. Overnight in Hanoi.
HANOI - HUE (B/-/D)
DAY 4 Morning at leisure until transfer to the airport and flight to Hue, the former royal city of the 13 ruling Nguyen dynasties. Visit the Imperial Citadel and Forbidden City. If time permits, we will also visit the colourful local market. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Hue.
HUE - DANANG - HOI AN (B/L/-)
DAY 5 Take a boat trip on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the oldest ancient architectural structures for religious worship in Hue. Drive to the Royal Tombs of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. After lunch at local restaurant, we start the spectacular drive over Hai Van Pass to Danang, then continue to the charming historic city of Hoi An and check in at hotel. Overnight in Hoi An.
HOI AN (B/L/-)
DAY 6 Hoi An, known to early Western merchants, Hoi An was one of the major trading centres of Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Hoi An has a distinctive Chinese atmosphere with low, tiled-roof houses and narrow streets; the original structure of some of these streets is still virtually intact. Many of the houses were constructed of rare timbers and decorated with lacquer panels engraved with Chinese characters and pillars carved with ornamental designs. During a leisurely discovery tour on foot you will visit some of the historic merchant and community houses, places of worship and famous bridges. A short boat trip across the river brings you to the boat builder’s yard and woodcarvers as well as a pottery and brick making village. Lunch at local restaurant. The afternoon is at leisure. Overnight in Hoi An.
HOI AN - QUY NHON (B/L/-)
DAY 7 Transfer to Danang railway station to take the day train to Dieu Tri (sharing 4 berth air-conditioning compartment). Lunch box on board. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to hotel in Quy Nhon for overnight.
QUY NHON - NHA TRANG (B/L/-)
DAY 8 Depart Quy Nhon for Nha Trang with a stop over at beautiful Dai Lanh beach. Lunch on the way. Arrive in Nha Trang and short city tour of Ponagar Cham Tower and Long Son Pagoda. Overnight in Nha Trang.
NHA TRANG - DALAT (B/L/-)
DAY 9 Boat trip to visit Tam and Mun islands. Return to Nha Trang for lunch at a local restaurant. Then depart for Dalat passing Ngoan Muc pass, the second spectacular one in Vietnam after the Haivan pass. The pass stretches over 20 km and offers wonderful scenery separating the two completely different climate zones. While Nha Trang is noted for its warm climate all year round, Dalat is mild and cool. Arrive in Dalat and visit Truc Lam Thien Vien with one way by cable car. Overnight in Dalat.
DALAT - HO CHI MINH CITY (B/L/-)
DAY 10 Visit Dalat market and Bao Dai villa, and take a train to Trai Mat with an ancient locomotive and Hang Nga crazy house (if time permits). Start a scenic drive from Dalat to Ho Chi Minh City with lunch en route. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
HO CHI MINH CITY - CU CHI TUNNELS - HO CHI MINH CITY (B/L/-)
DAY 11 In the morning, drive to Cu Chi. Visit the amazing complex of underground tunnels at Cu Chi. There are more than 200 km of underground tunnels, comprising a main axis system with many branches connecting to underground hideouts, shelters and other tunnels. Drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. Lunch at local restaurant. Visit Notre Dame Cathedral, Post Office and make a photo stop at the Former Presidential Palace; visit War Museum, Cholon (China town), Thien Hau Pagoda and Ben Thanh market. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
HO CHI MINH CITY - DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
DAY 12 Time at leisure until transfer to Ho Chi Minh City/Tan Son Nhat International Airport for departure.

Our tour prices are inclusive of transfers and tours with English or French speaking guide, accommodation in shared twin rooms with air-condition and private bath room, meals as specified in the program (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner), entrance fees, boat fees, cyclo fee, domestic air-ticket Hanoi - Hue, train ticket Danang - Quy Nhon (sharing 4 berth air-compartment).
Not included are surcharges for German speaking guide, compulsory gala dinners during festive seasons and peak season surcharges, which will be advised at time of booking.
NOTE: The train trip is a local experience. Cabins are shared with other local passengers (unless private cabin is requested and all berths paid for). Communal rest rooms at either end of the carriages complete the local experience. Train schedule is subject to change without prior notice.
Small deviations in the tour program are sometimes necessary, depending on weather, road conditions, flight schedules and room availability.
